When I first thought about writing this, I didn’t know that everybody in the world had a blog going on and, once again, thinking that I was one step ahead when it came to technology, was actually two, or three, or four, or many many more steps behind.
This was not a great shock to me. Years ago, before I ever used, much less owned, a computer, a club booker, upon receiving my first CD mentioned that web sites helped boost attendance. I said, “Web site? Would that require a computer?” He assured me that, indeed, it would. As you can see now, I do have a web site, and a computer (still working on how to use it) and for those of you on myspace, I’m there, too.
I remember Dale Watson, fine singer out of Austin, saying that those who came to shows, bought CDs, and listened to his music were more than just “fans”, they were “friends.” I share that belief.
It’s a tough business, as anybody in it can tell you. What keeps singers and pickers rolling down that musical highway are the kind words and sincere applause and the faces lit up with joy as they sing along to a particular favorite.
I’m grateful to still be playing music that I love from others, and still be writing and singing my own songs along with them as well.
